SINGLE PITCH AWARD/ROCK CLIMBING INSTRUCTOR
The Single Pitch Award (SPA) is administered by the Mountain Training and trains and assesses candidates in the skills required to supervise climbers on single pitch crags and climbing walls. As such it is seen as an essential qualification for those wishing to work in the outdoors industry and with outdoor centres, school groups and the voluntary sector.
It is now called the Rock Climbing Instructor from April 2nd 2018. There will be some major changes to the award itself. These are detailed on the award name changes page. SPA training or assessment holders will automatically get the RCI (training or assessment) on that date.
The rock climbing instructor is also a vital tool for climbers wanting to review their personal skills, allowing them to expand their knowledge of current best practise.
To be awarded the RCI a candidate must complete the training course and pass the separate assessment. All candidates should leave a minimum of 6 months between training and assessment courses in order to consolidate the techniques learned and to develop their own personal and group skills.
RCI TRAINING £205.00

rope systems and management
correct use of equipment

At the end of the course all candidates will receive one to one feedback from the instructor giving them a detailed overview of any potential areas that need work and a realistic timescale to assessment. Download programme here.
RCI ASSESSMENT £155.00
